History of Centenera
Centenera 1572
The Centenera family name is steeped in tradition. In 1572 Martin Del Barco Centenera, a Spanish cleric and historian, traveled to the Americas and chronicled nearly a quarter of a century of Spanish discovery of the New World. He paid homage to the beauty of the region in his poem La Argentina which inspired King Philip III to name the country he described Argentina.
Since their arrival in the New World, the Centeneras have migrated into Central and South America, Mexico, North America, the Philipines and throughout the world. Few know that, when the Spaniards moved into Mexico, a trade route was created from 1565 and 1815 between their territories in the Philippines and Mexico. The Filipino sailors brought with them their distillation techniques, which were used to create early mezcal, eventually Tequila, with the agave fruit. The Centenera name is synonymous with elegance and distinction. Centenera 1572 pays homage to the family’s roots in Spain and The Philippines and their respect for the “New World” and its culture. We dedicate this ultra premium tequila, made from 100% blue agave in the golden triangle of Jalisco, Mexico to our ancestry and to the peoples of the region who take pride in their tradition and culture. Our tequila is Kosher and ultra premium. We welcome you to el Mundo Nuevo of tequila bliss.
